Four Months Later, No Reply: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Directorate's Transparency Deficient

Musarrat Ullah Jan – Kikxnow

A concerned citizen submitted a formal application in April 2025 under the Right to Information (RTI) Act requesting information on sports activity, spending of funds, and office expenses in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Directorate and District Sports Office (DSO) Charsadda. Nevertheless, even after more than four months, the concerned authority has not issued any response or information to the citizen.

The RTI query was for the financial years 2023–24 and 2024–25 and requested:

A list of sports events conducted in Charsadda, along with dates and places.

Information regarding selection criteria for players, the number of fresh athletes identified, and whether Daily Allowances (DA) were given.

Distribution of budget expenses on training camps, sports gear, remuneration, maintenance of facilities, and unspent funds.

Annual office expenses and copies of the recent audit and inspection reports.

The petition was made through email in accordance with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government's vision of a paperless system. But till now, there has been total silence on the part of the authorities.

Such delays, experts contend, defeat the very purpose of the RTI law and invoke grave doubts about transparency, governance, and accountability in the public departments. If information on how public money is spent cannot be accessed by citizens, the scope for mismanagement or worse opens up.

The citizen has now said that he would take up the issue with the kp Information Commission and consider going legal if the information is not released in time.
