Tourism Police Transparency Under Question: KP Cultural Authority Fails to Disclose Motorcycle Fuel and Deployment Details Despite Repeated RTI Requests
In a concerning example of bureaucratic silence, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cultural and Tourism Authority has failed to respond to crucial Right to Information (RTI) requests regarding the operations of the Tourism Police. The initial request was filed on May 9, with a formal reminder submitted on May 24—yet the department has not provided any response to date.
The RTI application sought detailed information critical for
public transparency and accountability, including:
Monthly breakdown of fuel consumption for motorcycles used
by the Tourism Police over the past 12 months
Details of the allocated vs. utilized fuel budget
specifically for motorcycle operations
Number of Tourism Police personnel currently deployed in the
following districts:
Peshawar
Abbottabad
Mansehra
Swat
Chitral
Upper Dir (Dir Bala)
Full list of officers deployed in Peshawar, along with their
ranks and daily responsibilities
Current location of six motorcycles assigned to the Peshawar
head office
Usage records and locations where these motorcycles were
used for official purposes over the past year
Maintenance logs and copies of official logbooks related to
the motorcycle fleet
Furthermore, a formal complaint (ID: 12538) has now been
filed with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Right to Information Commission after
prolonged departmental silence.
This stonewalling raises serious concerns about the
financial transparency, accountability, and operational oversight of a police
unit established to facilitate and secure tourism—an important sector for the
province's economy and image.
💬 Public accountability is
not optional—it’s a right. The refusal to share basic administrative data hints
at possible mismanagement or worse: misuse of public funds and resources.
