Under-23 Sports Budget Under Scrutiny: KP Sports Directorate Silent Even After 8 Months of RTI Request
Peshawar – The Sports Directorate of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is once again under fire for its lack of transparency, as critical information related to Under-23 Inter-Regional Games remains undisclosed—eight months after an official request was submitted.
The application, numbered 1539, was filed on August 20,
2024, and later submitted to the RTI Commission under Request No. 11718.
Despite the passage of considerable time, the Directorate has yet to provide
any official response.
Key Questions Raised in the RTI Application:
What was the total budget released for the Under-23
Inter-Regional Games?
How many athletes participated?
What sports disciplines were included in the event?
How many male athletes took part, and what were the details
of the daily allowances paid to them?
Which women's sports were held, how many female athletes
participated, and what were the daily allowances provided to them?
What were the accommodation arrangements (hotels), and how
much was spent in total—especially on female participants?
Sources allege that some sports associations not only paid
less daily allowance to female athletes but also failed to utilize funds
allocated for trials, raising serious concerns about discrimination and
potential misuse of public money.
It is reported that separate officials were assigned for
men’s and women’s sports, implying separate budgets and responsibilities.
However, athletes claim that discrimination in expenses, facilities, and
support was evident—particularly against women.
The continued silence from the KP Sports Directorate and RTI
Commission after eight months points to a troubling lack of accountability.
Critics argue that the prolonged delay only reinforces suspicions of
mismanagement or deliberate concealment of data.
Applicants and activists are now demanding that all
expenditure details be made public immediately, and if financial irregularities
are confirmed, strict action should be taken against those responsible.
