oaches Accuse Players, But Questions Linger: The Controversy Around KP's Top Female Badminton Players

Nearly six months after an incident involving two of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s top female badminton players during the Quaid-e-Azam Games, a delayed inquiry has finally been concluded. According to the findings, the players were accused by their coaches of misbehaving during the event and allegedly scratching their medals in protest.

The inquiry report—signed by two coaches from the Provincial Sports Directorate—was surprisingly issued on the official letterhead of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Badminton Association. The report claims the players displayed inappropriate behavior during the games and allegedly “damaged the image of the province.”

However, while the inquiry’s conclusion might appear to settle the issue, it raises even more critical questions:

🕵️ Who Formed the Inquiry Committee?

One of the most glaring issues is the lack of transparency regarding the formation of the inquiry committee itself.

Was any official notification or press release issued when the committee was formed?

If the committee was unofficial or internally constituted, what was its legal or procedural authority?

📝 Why Were Sports Directorate Coaches Signing on Association Letterhead?

Another puzzling aspect is how coaches from the Sports Directorate ended up signing a document that was officially issued on the KP Badminton Association’s letterhead. This institutional crossover raises concerns about the legitimacy and independence of the inquiry.

🚫 Prejudiced Punishment Before Inquiry?

Before the inquiry had even been completed, the two female players were informally barred from participating in the National Games trials.

Who gave the directive to stop them from competing?

Was there any written notification of this ban?

What was the legal standing of these restrictions, especially since the KP Badminton Association confirmed it had not issued any such ban?

The players, both hailing from Charsadda, were among the province’s top-ranked badminton athletes. Their exclusion not only halted their progress but also kept them away from court for over three months, a serious blow to their training and morale.

Double Standards: Banned in Peshawar, But Free in Charsadda?

Shockingly, the same players recently participated in a badminton tournament at Abdul Wali Khan Sports Complex in Charsadda, casting serious doubt on the consistency of the so-called ban. If they were banned in Peshawar but allowed to play in Charsadda, what policy is the Sports Directorate actually following?
