Malakand District Overspends Sports Budget by Over Rs. 7 Million!

Serious concerns over financial transparency have emerged in District Malakand's Department of Sports and Recreation after it overspent its allocated funds by more than Rs. 7.2 million during the fiscal year 2024–25.

While the department was allocated a total budget estimate of Rs. 29,385,700, the government only released Rs. 20,721,377. Shockingly, the department reported expenditures of Rs. 27,928,057, exceeding the released amount by Rs. 7,206,680.

📊 Key Budget Figures – District Malakand:

Item      Amount (PKR)

Total Budget Estimate    29,385,700

Released Budget              20,721,377

Reported Expenditure   27,928,057

Overspending (Beyond Release)              7,206,680

Budget Utilization Rate  95% (of estimate)

Expenditure vs Release 135%

The over-expenditure of public funds, without matching releases, raises red flags about financial discipline, transparency, and planning within the district’s sports administration. Experts are now demanding an immediate audit to clarify the source of excess funds and verify the legitimacy of expenditures. This case adds to growing concerns about budget mismanagement in KP’s districts, especially where sports development for youth is a critical need.
