Leeloni Sports Complex Funds Scandal: Anti-Corruption Department Initiates Inquiry

Peshawar: The Anti-Corruption Department has launched an inquiry into the controversial return of funds allocated for the construction of a sports complex in Leeloni, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. An official notice has been sent to the Provincial Sports Directorate, demanding a detailed report on the matter.

Sources revealed that during the caretaker government's tenure, a modern sports complex was planned for Leeloni. However, not only was the project abruptly halted, but a suspicious letter was also sent to the Deputy Commissioner, allegedly from the Finance Department, instructing that the allocated millions be returned to the Provincial Sports Directorate.

Upon contacting the Finance Department for clarification, the Deputy Commissioner was informed that the letter was fake. Investigations further revealed that the allocated funds were supposed to revert directly to the Finance Department, not to any other authority, raising serious concerns over the attempted misappropriation.

As a result, the construction of the Leeloni Sports Complex was permanently scrapped, and the funds intended for public welfare were mishandled.

This scandal has emerged as a major blow within the "1,000 Sports Projects" initiative announced for the province.

Interestingly, the official under whose watch these irregularities occurred has since left office, and, as is often the case, the new officials are claiming ignorance of the entire episode.

The Anti-Corruption Department has formally demanded all relevant documents and records, initiating a preliminary investigation. It remains to be seen whether the culprits will be identified and held accountable, or if the case will simply fade into bureaucratic oblivion.
