Hayatabad Sports Complex Generates PKR 27 Million Revenue; Swimming Pool and Gym Lead Earnings

The Hayatabad Sports Complex has recorded significant financial performance from April 2024 to date, generating an estimated PKR 27 million in revenue, according to official sources within the Directorate of Sports, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The detailed financial records, which include income deposits and maintenance expenditures, have been reviewed and approved by the Director General (DG) Sports. These records are available for inspection at the directorate’s office, signaling a commitment to transparency and accountability.

The swimming pool emerged as the highest revenue-generating facility, despite its seasonal operation. Its popularity and consistent demand during operational months have made it a crucial source of income. Following closely behind is the gym, which outperforms all other sports facilities in year-round earnings.

The complex currently operates with a team of 33 permanent staff members and 23 daily-wage workers, ensuring the smooth day-to-day functioning of the premises. To meet the seasonal demand for pool operations, an additional six staff members were temporarily hired for five months, in accordance with DG Sports' directives.

Interestingly, no commercial shops have been rented out within the complex. However, a unique solution was implemented to address complaints from parents whose children had to exit the complex to purchase snacks or juices.

In response, the administration allowed a young, underprivileged athlete to set up a small juice stall inside the premises. The boy, unable to afford professional sports equipment or training, uses his small business earnings to support his athletic career. No rent is charged, turning a potential problem into a heartwarming, athlete-supportive initiative.

This initiative reflects a community-centered model of sports management, where the focus is not just on revenue, but also on nurturing talent and responding to the needs of athletes and visitors alike.

As the complex continues to evolve, its blend of professionalism, transparency, and social sensitivity offers a potential blueprint for other sports facilities across the province
