Chouha Gujar Sports Complex Project Also in the Spotlight: Walls Built, Project Halted, Land Being Sold
Peshawar: The proposed sports complex project in Chouha Gujar has also fallen victim to the caretaker government’s decision to halt it. The Anti-Corruption Department has now officially taken notice of the issue.
According to sources, the Sports Directorate had acquired
land for this project and built walls as part of the preliminary work for the
construction of the sports complex. The aim of this project was to provide
sports facilities to the nearby areas of Peshawar, particularly Chamakni and
other neighboring regions.
However, during the caretaker government’s tenure, the
project was abruptly canceled. The "Section Four" status of the land
was also revoked, and now, the valuable land is being sold off in plots.
The situation has worsened because the provincial government
is now facing a shortage of land for the construction of a horse riding club. A
horse riding club, with an estimated cost of 20 crore rupees, was planned, but
there is no available land for its development. Attempts have been made to find
land in Hayatabad and Regi, but no resolution has been found so far.
What is even more concerning is that millions of rupees were
spent on building walls for the Chouha Gujar sports complex, which now stands
abandoned. The Anti-Corruption Department has launched an investigation into
the matter to determine why the project was halted, who ordered the removal of
Section Four, and who is behind the selling of the land.
