Fake Players, Real Crime: KP Sports Directorate Silent on Human Smuggling Scandal

In a shocking revelation, a human smuggling scandal has surfaced involving the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Directorate, where forged documents were used to sponsor seven individuals posing as squash players for New Zealand visas. The case, which directly involves internal employees and forged signatures of a former Director General, has been met with official silence—raising serious concerns about political protection and systemic corruption.

According to sources, the sponsorship letters used to support the visa applications were drafted within the Sports Directorate itself, carrying forged signatures of the former DG Sports Khalid Mehmood. The forged documents were issued on official government letterheads and bore all necessary credentials to appear authentic.

Once the New Zealand embassy flagged the documents and sought verification through official channels, a staff member from the Sports Directorate reportedly confirmed the letters’ authenticity via email—thus clearing the path for potential misuse. However, when a second email was sent directly to the current DG Sports, he denied the authenticity of the letters and immediately ordered an FIR to be lodged. But despite this order, no FIR has been filed to date.

Further investigation revealed that two officials involved have fled the country, and one key figure is allegedly using political contacts to escape prosecution. Even more disturbingly, the Minister for Sports has not made any statement on the matter, fueling suspicions of high-level involvement or pressure.

Former DG Khalid Mehmood, whose name and signature were fraudulently used, officially contacted the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) demanding a full probe. A committee was reportedly constituted, but insiders claim political interference has paralyzed the investigation.

In response to the incident, the Pakistan Squash Federation has sent out advisories to all embassies, urging them to double-verify any sponsorship claims through official federations in the future to prevent similar fraudulent attempts.

Sources within the sports circle allege that human smuggling disguised under sports delegations is not new in KP’s sports system. Calls have been made for a full audit of suspicious employees' assets, as many are believed to have amassed wealth disproportionate to their salaries.

Despite the serious nature of the crime—misuse of government identity, international embarrassment, and possible criminal smuggling—no arrests have been made and the case appears to be sinking into silence.

The central question remains:

Will this crime be buried under political pressure, or will accountability prevail?
