KP Sports Department Fails to Provide Information, Journalist Demands Transparency!
A journalist and concerned citizen of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is facing complete silence from the Provincial Sports Directorate’s Work and Implementation Department. His legitimate demand for transparency regarding the region’s sports infrastructure has been met with an alarming lack of response from the Directorate of Implementations and Work under the Sports and Youth Affairs Department.
The journalist had formally requested crucial details about completed sports complexes, the condition of hockey stadiums, ongoing construction projects, and the status of specific grounds such as Islamia College Hockey Ground and Abdul Wali Khan Hockey Turf. His petition, filed on January 7, 2025, also sought information about department staff, particularly those responsible for the maintenance and implementation of sports projects.
However, despite the significance of these queries, the department has failed to respond. After waiting for two months, on March 11, 2025, the journalist was compelled to send a stern reminder to Director Ahmed Zeb. In his follow-up, he emphasized the importance of transparency in sports infrastructure and governance, reinforcing his right to information under the law. He reiterated his request for data, including the number of completed hockey stadiums, their current condition, and the status of ongoing construction work.
This request was not merely about statistics; it was about the overall state of sports in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The journalist sought to uncover whether public funds were being utilized effectively, whether sports facilities were being properly maintained, and whether the region’s youth were receiving the opportunities they deserved. The condition of Islamia College and Abdul Wali Khan Hockey Grounds, two historic and essential sports venues, was a key concern.
The lack of response from the authorities has sparked public outrage. Citizens argue that withholding such information is a grave injustice to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. "The Right to Information Act is a fundamental tool that allows citizens to hold authorities accountable," remarked one concerned citizen. "We have the right to know how our sports infrastructure is being managed. Silence only breeds suspicion."
With time running out, the question remains: Will Director Ahmed Zeb and the Sports and Youth Affairs Department finally break their silence and provide the requested information, or will this continued lack of transparency further fuel public skepticism about the management of sports in the region?
