Bannu Sports Complex, Hockey Stadium Gutted by Lack of Staff

Bannu's sporting ambitions are being kicked into touch due to a full-blown staff shortage at the city's major sports grounds. Both Bannu Sports Complex and the nearby hockey ground are suffering with critical shortages of staff, with the impact spilling over onto maintenance, sanitation, and in the end, the capacity of sportsmen and women to practice and compete.

The 30-kanal hockey ground is astonishingly governed by only three watchmen in shifts. This minimal security presence is woefully insufficient for such a vast area. Compounding the issue, only two janitors and one sweeper are responsible for keeping the grounds clean, a task almost impossible to accomplish considering the size of the stadium. The 74-kanal sports complex fares no better. Five watchmen, three gardeners, and two sweepers are responsible for keeping the enormous complex in line.

The irony is biting: the sports complex is left idle with its modern cleaning equipment, a testimony to the ineptitude. There's no driver for the equipment, so dust gets to settle and the cleaning process goes into disarray. Desperation to get people in has even forced drivers to be turned into watchmen, showing just how extensive the shortages are. Sources indicate a critical shortage of class four personnel, with the added factor of seven people being promoted without new personnel being recruited.

This staffing emergency is not only an administrative inconvenience; it is a direct kick to the sportspeople and sportspersons of Bannu. Dirty and unkempt facilities make the training ground an unsafe and uninspiring place to train. Without regular maintenance, the grounds suffer, and performance suffers as well, making injuries more likely. Without security, athletes and equipment become vulnerable.

The situation calls for urgent action. The hiring of class four personnel is the top priority. The watchmen and cleaning staff need to be increased considerably to provide proper security and maintenance. A permanent driver should be appointed for the cleaning equipment to ensure that it is properly utilized. These are not suggestions; these are necessary actions to avoid further deterioration and bring the facilities back to a workable standard.

The destiny of Bannu's sporting potential is in the balance. Unless these problems are dealt with quickly, they will have far-reaching effects. Athletes will be obliged to train under poor-quality conditions, risking their development. Sporting events could be cancelled or moved, missing the local community out on much-needed recreational opportunities. The message is loud and clear: Bannu's athletes are entitled to more. The moment for action is now.
