RTI Uncovers Quaid-e-Azam Games Funding Allegations of Irregularities
Peshawar: A local journalist's Right to
Information application has unmasked alleged irregularities in the disbursement
and expenditure of funds allocated for the Quaid-e-Azam Games in Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa. The applicant has filed an RTI with the Sports Directorate seeking
comprehensive information regarding the distribution of funds and athlete
preparation for the prestigious sporting event.
The RTI has requested specific information
in regard to the total amount provided for men's teams as well as how these
allocations were further divided into funds for various sports. Furthermore,
the applicant has sought information in regards to funds allocated for the
training camps, including detailed breakdowns of funds on equipment as well as
information on contractors involved in that process.
The journalist has also demanded the
details regarding the openness of the procurement process and receipt
availability. The RTI also requests information on total funds allocated for
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa athletes preparation for the Quaid-e-Azam Games and specific
amounts for the individual athletes and officials.
The application further requests details
about the funds allocated for bringing athletes back to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
after the games and whether these funds were officially sanctioned. The RTI
further requests a list of athletes and officials who participated in the
games, including a breakdown of male and female athletes across 15 different
sports.
The RTI application raised concerns over
the possible misappropriation of public funds, and the sports governance issue
in the province is seen as being discussed in an open manner. The Sports
Directorate will have to respond to the RTI, and the response will reveal if
the allegations are indeed correct.
