RTI Query Exposes Sports Directorate's Evasion: Accountability in Question
Peshawar , A critical
Right to Information (RTI) application filed on 18 September 2023 has exposed
the lack of transparency and accountability within the Sports Directorate.
Despite multiple reminders, the authorities have failed to provide the
requested information, raising serious concerns about the Directorate's
adherence to the RTI Act and its overall governance practices.
The RTI inquiry seeks answers to the following questions
that are critical in nature:
Project Director Appointment: How many candidates applied
for the position, and when was the interview held?
Director Development: Who has been holding the additional
charge of Director Development since when?
Vacancy Status: When did the post of Director Development
fall vacant?
GIS to MIS Shift: Since when have GIS specialists been
working as MIS specialists, and why?
Additional Allowance: How much additional allowance have
these officials been drawing for their extra responsibilities and for how long?
The application was filed more than a year ago, but the
Sports Directorate has yet to respond despite persistent reminders. This
silence over such a long period strongly suggests either complete disregard for
the RTI Act or unwillingness to reveal information that may speak of internal
mismanagement.
The lack of transparency raises a very alarming question:
are they hiding the truth about something to avoid scrutiny? Their continued
evasion could indicate deeper issues in the department.
And what is the RTI Commission doing? Not taking action on
this inordinate delay. Does it mean the government is not serious about
accountability in public institutions?
Shouldn't the Commission impose fines or punitive action on
the Sports Directorate for brazen non-compliance?
