"KP Sports Directorate Faces Transparency Questions Over Deputation and Vehicle Allocation"
Peshawar , A recent response from the Directorate General of
Sports, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, to an RTI query has raised several eyebrows about
the management of deputationists and government resources. There are three
major points here:
Number of Deputationists: It was requested to know how many
officers are working under deputation in the Sports Directorate and their
tenures. There is no clear detail of the total number of deputationists and the
service they rendered to the operations of the department.
Requisition/Extension Orders: Although seven pages of
requisition/extension orders have been annexed with this document, it did not
clarify why such deputations were required or in line with the sports policy of
the province.
Vehicle Deployment and Fuelling: According to the report,
Since 2023-October a Toyota Revo has been assigned to
Project Director
The DD (GIS) two Suzuki Cultus cars since June 2020
AD (Development) Since January 2022 Suzuki Cultus vehicle.
"As per government ceiling," apparently it is
claimed but, of course, details such as fuel expenditure or mileage remain
unrevealed.
Lack of transparency in how resources are allocated and
managed gives rise to serious questions. Why do vehicles go preferentially to
officials rather than athletes? Are the allocated resources achieving the
intended results of sports development in the province?
The issue also raises systematic inefficiencies, like
delayed and non-existent audits and continuous interest in bureaucratic benefits
rather than grassroot sports activities. In this regard, it becomes critical
because sports infrastructure at grassroot level is one of the worst in Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa.
Questions for Responsibility
Why are deputees holding important positions under the
Sports Directorate?
How have policies been framed ensuring such deputations
facilitate athletes and the sports culture?
Are these expenses justified in the face of mounting
concerns over mismanagement of resources in the province?
