Concerns Over Illegal Recruitments and Mismanagement in Kp Sports Directorate Projects

Allegations of illegal recruitments have surfaced in the Provincial Sports Directorate's initiative to establish sports grounds at the Union Council level. In Dera Ismail Khan, four individuals were recruited without proper advertisement or interviews, receiving three months' salary and Eid bonuses before their unexpected dismissal just three months later.

Sources from the Sports Directorate reveal that under the annual project 210575, these recruits, including Muhammad Zubair and Syed Muhammad Yusuf Shah, were hired as junior clerks, while Syed Maqbool Ahmad Shah and Ameer Jalil Shah were categorized as office boys. They were instructed to open bank accounts for salary disbursement, amounting to 32,000 rupees each, and were told they were undergoing training in Dera Ismail Khan. These individuals received salaries starting from March 2024 and were also granted bonuses during Eid celebrations.

However, in June, these same employees were abruptly dismissed from another project, "Promotion and Sustainability of Sports Activities Khyber Pakhtunkhwa" (project 220486), with the justification that their services were no longer required, despite holding positions in the Union Council project.

When approached for comment, Zahid Khan, the appointed Deputy Director GIS in the 1000 sports project, initially denied involvement in the recruitments. Yet, he later acknowledged the appointments in project 220486, failing to address the discrepancies related to project 210575.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Directorate manages separate projects aimed at promoting sports at the Union Council level, along with another dedicated to providing 1,000 sports facilities, each with distinct funding allocations. However, the performance of these projects remains unclear. Several initiatives, including a climbing wall project, have been launched, but their effectiveness is questionable.

Additionally, past projects intended for public use have primarily benefited government officials. Many courts established within government institutions have become ineffective, with gyms, such as those in Abbottabad, Nathiagali, and Peshawar Sports Complex, either closing down or falling into disrepair within two years.

Moreover, recruitment practices for these projects appear politically motivated, with Grade 18 personnel being assigned to lower-grade positions, and interns, including engineers, facing undue pressure to prioritize sports over their official duties.

Despite multiple Right to Information requests concerning the salaries and vehicles linked to these projects, project directors have persistently denied access to information for over a year. The Right to Information Commission has subsequently issued a final warning notice regarding this lack of transparency.
