KP Hockey Association to Field Two Teams for National Junior Championship
Peshawar,
Pakistan: The President of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Hockey Association, Syed
Zahir Shah, has announced the formation of two teams to represent the province
in the upcoming National Junior Championship. The registration and selection
process will take place at the Lala Ayub Hockey Stadium on September 23 and 24,
respectively.
Speaking
to journalists in Peshawar, Shah emphasized the importance of participating in
the championship to ensure the association's affiliation. He expressed
disappointment over the lack of funds from the sports directorate, despite the
increased resources.
"Our
teams will go to Islamabad on September 24th, whether the sports directorate
gives funds or not," Shah declared. "We don't have funds, it's
surprising that earlier there used to be a sports board, now it has become a
directorate, which means that the resources have increased, so they should
support all the sports associations."
Shah
also criticized the sports directorate's plans to outsource the hockey turf for
weddings. He questioned the priorities of the department and emphasized the
need to focus on promoting sports and developing young talent.
"We
want to promote sports, the directorate should build infrastructure, but if
there are no players in the ground, then how will the players come," Shah
said. "We have not received funds for two years."
Despite
the challenges, Shah remains committed to ensuring Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's
participation in the National Junior Championship. He believes that the event
is crucial for identifying and nurturing young talent.
