Lakki Marwat DSO Faces Backlash Over Lavish Independence Day Spending
Peshawar , A storm of criticism has erupted in the small district of Lucky Marwat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, after the District Sports Officer (DSO) sought a staggering Rs. 2.2 million for a one-day Independence Day celebration. The request, which has gone viral, has sparked outrage among residents who question the necessity of such extravagant spending in an area grappling with limited resources.
The DSO's proposed budget allocates a hefty Rs. 400,000 for
cricket alone, while badminton, table tennis, tug-of-war, and martial arts each
receive Rs. 300,000. Even a baffling Rs. 300,000 has been earmarked for
"lighting," raising eyebrows about the event's scale and the
transparency of the expenditure.
Critics argue that the DSO's office is prioritizing lavish
spending over the pressing needs of the community. While the district faces
shortages in basic amenities, millions are being poured into a single-day event
that caters to a limited audience. The lack of oversight and accountability has
further fueled public anger.
As the nation celebrates its independence, the people of
Lucky Marwat are left questioning the true meaning of freedom when public funds
are seemingly squandered without justification. With no signs of intervention
from higher authorities, the community fears that this incident is just another
example of unchecked government spending.
