Tragic Cricket Death Highlights DSO Policy Failures

Recent Tragic Cricket Incident Exposes DSO Oversight Failures in Enforcing 2018 Sports Policy In light of a recent cricket training tragedy in Bannu, serious questions have been raised about the oversight of District Sports Officers (DSOs) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Reports indicate a concerning lack of supervision, with DSOs failing to gather basic data on local clubs and academies as mandated by the sports policy. This lack of monitoring has led to a chaotic environment, potentially resulting in life-threatening incidents.

The unfortunate incident is the second cricket-related fatality in a month, both stemming from training mishaps. While the 2018 provincial sports policy clearly outlines the role of DSOs in inspecting and managing sports facilities, a culture of negligence appears to shroud this crucial responsibility.

Despite recent efforts to recruit officers through proper channels, the situation remains dire, with allegations of inefficiency, inadequate record-keeping, and failure to collect necessary fees. Immediate action is imperative to safeguard the well-being of young athletes. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government must hold DSOs accountable for effectively implementing the 2018 Sports Policy to ensure a safer sporting environment.
