Galloping Injustice: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Horse Club Raises Eyebrows

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government's recent announcement of a new horse riding club project in Peshawar and DI Khan has sparked controversy. Critics point out the hefty price tag of 180 million rupees allocated for a project seemingly catering to the elite, while existing sports infrastructure struggles and young athletes face neglect.

While the Chief Minister's fondness for equestrian pursuits is well-known, questions arise about potential conflicts of interest. Whispers abound of preferential treatment for friends now holding sway in the sports department.

Peshawar already boasts a police riding club. Yet, with a significant portion of the province grappling with poverty, the rationale behind this project remains opaque. Meanwhile, aspiring athletes face hardships. Scholarship announcements are delayed, leaving 21 players in limbo.

Allocation of funds raises further concerns. Critics suspect nepotism in potential hiring practices and project execution. The promise of "justice" touted by the PTI government seems to have misplaced its reins.

Adding another layer of suspicion is the past abandonment of a designated sports complex and horse riding club site in Mera Kachori. The sports directorate's unexplained exit from the project fueled speculation of kickbacks and corruption. Complaints to anti-corruption bodies seemingly fell on deaf ears.

Further muddying the waters, the sports directorate appears to have deviated from its 2018 policy focused on promoting youth development through under-21, under-24, and inter-university games. These initiatives fall outside their core mandate.

The silence surrounding these issues is deafening. Who will hold the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government accountable for allocating hefty funds to an elitist project while neglecting the needs of grassroots sports and aspiring athletes? The answer remains to be seen.
