Adil Khan Swimming Pool Open Despite Muharram Holiday, Raising Safety Concerns
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Directorate's decision to open
the Adil Khan swimming pool on the first day of Muharram, a public holiday, has
sparked controversy. While the move aimed to generate revenue, it has raised
concerns about safety and respect for religious holidays.
The pool remained open despite the official holiday, with
people from Peshawar and surrounding areas visiting for a swim. However, most other offices within the
Provincial Sports Directorate were closed. The pool administration charged an
entrance fee of five rupees from all visitors.
The policy has drawn criticism, with some questioning the presence of employees on duty for overtime pay on a religious holiday. Additionally, concerns have been raised about past incidents of child drownings at the pool, raising safety questions.
