Squash Legend Mohibullah Calls for Support: "Talented Players Held Back by Poverty"
Peshawar , Legendary
squash coach Mohibullah Khan has spoken out about the challenges facing
aspiring squash players in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. While praising the government's
efforts in building courts, Khan highlighted the financial burden of equipment
on players from underprivileged backgrounds.
Khan, a former world No. 2 himself, pointed out the drastic
increase in the cost of squash balls and rackets, making it difficult for
children to even start playing. He emphasized Pakistan's rich squash talent
pool but warned that lack of resources is hindering its development.
The interview also touched upon the distractions of mobile
phones and the crucial role of academies like the Pakistan Air Force in
nurturing talent. Khan expressed his disappointment with former squash player
Ali Amin Gandapur's shift to politics, lamenting the missed opportunity for
support at the government level.
Mohibullah Khan, currently working as an honorary coach, is actively advocating for player development and coaches' rehabilitation. His call to action underscores the need for financial aid and infrastructure improvements to ensure a bright future for Pakistani squash.
