Rejuvenating Sports Infrastructure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faces Financial Scrutiny
In a concerning development, the 1000 sports facilities
project, aimed at revitalizing sports infrastructure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,
received a disconcerting sum of three hundred and thirty-two thousand six
hundred and forty-six rupees from the Accountant General Office in November
2023. This allocation, supposedly for the monthly fuel expenses for October
2023, has raised eyebrows and questions regarding financial management.
According to insiders from the Provincial Sports Directorate, disbursements in November 2023 included over twenty-eight thousand rupees for transport repairs and sixty-two thousand rupees for stationery for the sports projects.
However, what catches
the attention is the dubious allocation of thirteen thousand rupees labeled as
TADA for one official, and a staggering sixty-nine thousand rupees for
unspecified purposes within the sports facilities project, along with eighteen
thousand rupees for a GIS specialist.
A mere thousand rupees under TADA for the 1000 sports
facilities project in November 2023 further underscores financial
irregularities. Moreover, the revelation that the Deputy Director GIS was the
disbursing authority raises significant concerns about accountability and
transparency.
It is imperative to note that the 1000 sports facilities
project, under the Provincial Sports Directorate, has been starved of funds for
the past two decades, resulting in its near-closure and leaving contractors
unpaid. This dire situation has prompted many contractors to abandon their
projects, exacerbating the plight of sports infrastructure in the region.
