"Battle for Hayatabad Sports Complex: Peshawar Development Authority Demands Takeover"
In a bid to assume control of the Hayatabad Sports Complex ahead of schedule, the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) has initiated talks with the Provincial Sports Directorate. Asserting financial constraints, the PDA has urged the Provincial Chief Minister to transfer ownership of the complex to them, citing the intention to finance its upkeep through generated revenue. Sources from the Ministry of Sports indicate a preliminary approval from the Chief Minister, pending a formal briefing slated for next week.
The Provincial Sports Directorate officials are anticipated
to present details to the Chief Minister, who also chairs the Board of
Governors of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa PDA.
The complex, initially handed over to the Provincial Sports Directorate, witnessed a return due to concerns of misuse. Following extensive refurbishments costing billions, it emerged as a hub for various sports activities.
However, PDA's recent plea for ownership transfer comes
amidst its extensive portfolio management, which includes overseeing major
projects across Peshawar, such as the Regi Model and BRT projects, alongside
healthcare facilities and revenue collection endeavors.
This request coincides with the appointment of the Director General of Provincial Sports Directorate as the new DGP of PDA, hinting at potential administrative changes in the complex's management.
As discussions unfold, the fate of the Hayatabad Sports
Complex remains uncertain, embroiled in a tug-of-war between PDA's
administrative burden and the sporting aspirations of the region.
