PSB Peshawar Raises Concerns as Private Event Takes Priority over Athletes
The use of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and Coaching Center
Peshawar for a private school's certificate ceremony has sparked worries among
the local sports community. The event involved food and drinks served in the garden
and mini hall of Judo, raising concerns about the space's primary purpose.
Students, parents, and catering equipment filled the
premises, while badminton and volleyball players were left waiting to practice.
This incident has been criticized as unfair to athletes who rely on these
facilities for training.
Usman, the Acting Director of PSB Peshawar, clarified that
badminton players haven't paid their monthly fees for several months. He also
stated that the gymnasium closure from March 1st was pre-announced due to
volleyball competitions.
According to Usman, the PSB Board allows private events with
specific fees and official approval from Islamabad headquarters. He added that
a notice regarding the gymnasium closure from March 1st had been displayed for
players' information.
While the PSB's explanation offers some context, the incident highlights the need for a clear and balanced approach to managing these facilities. Balancing the needs of athletes with the potential revenue generated from private events requires careful consideration and transparent communication to ensure that the primary purpose of these facilities, which is to support athletes, remains the top priority.
