PHC Chief Justice Leads 13th Provincial Justice Committee Meeting, Discusses Improvement Efforts
The 13th Provincial Justice Committee (PJC) meeting, chaired
by Chief Justice Mohammad Ibrahim Khan of the Peshawar High Court, focused on
improving justice delivery and addressing various challenges faced by the
system.
The meeting, held at the PJC Secretariat, was attended by
key figures including senior judges, government officials, and representatives
from law and legal bodies. In his opening remarks, Chief Justice Khan
emphasized the importance of the PJC as a platform for collaboration among
stakeholders to ensure effective and timely justice delivery.
Meeting Highlights:
Progress Updates: The meeting received updates on projects
like the Forensic Science Laboratory, Observation Homes, Juvenile
Rehabilitation Centers, and software integration across justice sector
stakeholders.
Under-Trial Prisoners (UTPs): Addressing the issue of UTPs,
the committee directed the police to avoid registering unnecessary progress
cases and urged courts to utilize specific legal provisions to expedite their
cases.
Inter-Provincial Transfers: Recognizing the need for a
simplified inter-provincial transfer mechanism for accused individuals, the
committee agreed to raise this concern at the national level in the next
National Justice Peace and Reconciliation Committee (NJPMC) meeting.
Judicial Complexes in Merged Districts: Expressing concern
over delays in acquiring land and releasing funds for judicial complexes in
merged districts, the committee instructed the Senior Member of the Board of
Revenue (SMBR) to resolve any administrative roadblocks within a month to
facilitate construction.
Seized Vehicles and Case Property: The committee highlighted
the misuse of seized vehicles and case property. They directed relevant
authorities to share data with District & Sessions Judges for prompt
disposal of these cases.
Malkhanas for Narcotics: The committee stressed the need for
dedicated Malkhanas (storage facilities) for narcotics substances.
Additionally, they emphasized the importance of collecting samples in the
presence of a magistrate to ensure proper handling and prevent potential issues
in prosecution.
The PJC meeting serves as a crucial forum for addressing systemic challenges and driving improvements in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa justice system. Through collaboration and decisive action, the committee aims to ensure access to timely and effective justice for all.
