The 13th Provincial Justice Committee (PJC) meeting, chaired by Chief Justice Mohammad Ibrahim Khan of the Peshawar High Court, focused on improving justice delivery and addressing various challenges faced by the system.

The meeting, held at the PJC Secretariat, was attended by key figures including senior judges, government officials, and representatives from law and legal bodies. In his opening remarks, Chief Justice Khan emphasized the importance of the PJC as a platform for collaboration among stakeholders to ensure effective and timely justice delivery.

Meeting Highlights:

Progress Updates: The meeting received updates on projects like the Forensic Science Laboratory, Observation Homes, Juvenile Rehabilitation Centers, and software integration across justice sector stakeholders.

Under-Trial Prisoners (UTPs): Addressing the issue of UTPs, the committee directed the police to avoid registering unnecessary progress cases and urged courts to utilize specific legal provisions to expedite their cases.

Inter-Provincial Transfers: Recognizing the need for a simplified inter-provincial transfer mechanism for accused individuals, the committee agreed to raise this concern at the national level in the next National Justice Peace and Reconciliation Committee (NJPMC) meeting.

Judicial Complexes in Merged Districts: Expressing concern over delays in acquiring land and releasing funds for judicial complexes in merged districts, the committee instructed the Senior Member of the Board of Revenue (SMBR) to resolve any administrative roadblocks within a month to facilitate construction.

Seized Vehicles and Case Property: The committee highlighted the misuse of seized vehicles and case property. They directed relevant authorities to share data with District & Sessions Judges for prompt disposal of these cases.

Malkhanas for Narcotics: The committee stressed the need for dedicated Malkhanas (storage facilities) for narcotics substances. Additionally, they emphasized the importance of collecting samples in the presence of a magistrate to ensure proper handling and prevent potential issues in prosecution.

The PJC meeting serves as a crucial forum for addressing systemic challenges and driving improvements in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa justice system. Through collaboration and decisive action, the committee aims to ensure access to timely and effective justice for all.
