Peshawar Journalists Face Exclusion from PSL 9 Coverage in Rawalpindi
Journalists from
Peshawar are facing difficulties obtaining media cards for the Pakistan Super
League (PSL) 9 edition in Rawalpindi, raising concerns about unequal treatment
and potential discrimination.
Despite consistent
issues in previous years, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appears to be
repeating the same pattern of neglecting journalists from Peshawar. While
journalists from other cities like Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi receive full support,
Peshawar journalists are left struggling.
While journalists
from other cities can cover matches across the country, Peshawar journalists
face limitations. They are often restricted from covering matches in Multan,
Karachi, and even Rawalpindi, despite its proximity to Peshawar.
Reports suggest that
the PCB entrusted an Islamabad journalist with distributing media cards,
leading to accusations of favoritism and bias. Some journalists, including
government employees with no clear journalistic affiliation, received cards,
while others with proper press club memberships and experience were excluded.
Sports circles are
urging the PCB to ensure transparency and fairness in the media card
distribution process. They demand equal access for all journalists, regardless
of their city or affiliation, to ensure comprehensive and inclusive coverage of
the PSL.
This incident
highlights the need for the PCB to establish clear and unbiased guidelines for
media card distribution and uphold the principles of fair journalistic access
for all.
