Corruption Allegations Cloud De-Notification of Chuha Gujjar Sports Complex!

Residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have raised concerns to the Anti-Corruption Department regarding the cancellation of the Chuha Gujjar Sports Complex’s notification, which was established under the previous PTI administration.

Allegations have surfaced of substantial bribes and land misappropriation linked to the complex’s development. The Anti-Corruption Department, along with the Provincial Sports Directorate, has received a letter detailing accusations that a development sector official accepted a bribe of five lakh rupees and one kanal of land.

The letter also mentions directives given to the Deputy Commissioner of Peshawar to inaugurate the sports complex on August 10, 2023, to enhance local sports facilities and encourage positive community engagement among the youth.

However, the de-notification of the project, valued at 147.72 million, has reportedly caused harm not only to the sports directorate but also to public trust and the state’s finances.

Calls for legal proceedings and accountability measures against the implicated official have been made to prevent future misconduct. Despite attempts to reach the accused official from the sports directorate for comments, there has been no response to the corruption allegations.

The controversy surrounding the Chuha Gujjar Sports Complex’s de-notification dates back to the tenure of the former DG Sports. A key provincial figure’s close associate, who played a significant role in the DG’s appointment, is said to have influenced the decision to cancel the complex’s notification. Efforts are underway to verify the identities of local residents potentially involved in the case to address the allegations.
