Scandal Erupts as Non-Standard Work Halts Construction at Peshawar Sports Complex
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Directorate's ambitious
development project at the Peshawar Sports Complex has hit a major snag, with
work grinding to a halt amid revelations of substandard construction practices.
The contractor, facing scrutiny for non-compliance with standards, has stopped
all activity, including the installation of shade sheets for the pavilion's
fans.
The issue stems from the improper installation of iron rods
intended to support the shade sheets. Engineers discovered welding at incorrect
points, raising concerns about structural integrity. Despite instructions to
rectify the errors, the contractor removed the iron rods entirely, leaving the
project in limbo.
Adding to the confusion, the official reason for the
complete work stoppage remains unclear. Whispers of financial constraints point
to a potential funding shortfall, leaving the contractor hesitant to resume
work without payment.
The project, encompassing the construction of football
grounds, a tartan track, and pavilion shade sheets, was initially slated for
completion by September 2024. However, the current pace of work raises serious
doubts about meeting this deadline.
Key Points:
Non-standard construction practices halted work at the
Peshawar Sports Complex.
Shade sheet installation for the pavilion remains
incomplete.
Financial constraints suspected as a possible reason for
work stoppage.
Project completion deadline in 2024 appears increasingly
unlikely.
