Provincial Sports Directorate Plunges into Darkness and Silence as Gas and Electricity Cut Off
The Provincial Sports Directorate, already grappling with a
recent electricity cut-off, has been plunged into further darkness and silence
with the disconnection of its gas supply. This latest blow, affecting the
hockey turf's water supply and leaving the hostel kitchens cold, has sparked
outrage among athletes and sports circles.
Adding to the frustration, the Director General of Sports
has revealed that funding for under-21 players has also been stalled. Many
players, relying solely on hostel accommodation, are now forced to bring their
meals from outside due to the lack of gas.
Meanwhile, a glaring issue has come to light – unauthorized
residents in the Directorate's hostels and rooms. These individuals, unrelated
to sports, have been enjoying subsidized electricity and gas for years, despite
not contributing to the department. The Director General has demanded immediate
action against them, citing legal, moral, and Shariah concerns.
The current situation not only disrupts the athletes' training but also raises serious questions about the Directorate's management and financial transparency. It's time for swift action and accountability to ensure the proper functioning of this crucial institution for sports development in the province.
