Deputation Controversies Surrounding Official Appointments in Provincial Sports Directorate

Peshawar ,  In the Provincial Sports Directorate of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a recent revelation highlights concerns over the deputation of officers from various departments, raising questions about transparency and financial allocations.

Leading the roster is Shah Fazil, appointed as a project director for the 1,000 sports facilities project on August 2, 2023, brought in by DG Sports Khalid Mahmood from the P&D Department. Interestingly, on November 1, 2023, DG Khalid Mahmood instructed Shah Fazil to submit all records of Sports Foundation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Additionally, on October 5, 2023, a five-member committee was formed under the DG's directive to oversee ongoing projects in the province, with Shah Fazil assuming the post of Director Development.

The second official, a Deputy Director GIS on deputation from the Forestry Department, was assigned to the Sports Directorate on January 3, 2020, with a deputation period extending until February 2025. Though the deputation is initially for two years, Shah Hussain, the third appointee from the P&D Department, has been brought in for three years since September 2021, focusing on the 1,000 sports facilities project. Similarly, Taimur Khan from the Bureau of Statistics Department has been appointed as Assistant Director Union Council Ground for three years from October 2021.

The report from the Sports Directorate of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa leaves questions unanswered regarding the tenure of Shah Fazil in the Sports Directorate as Project Director. Notably, financial constraints are hindering funds for the 1,000 sports facilities project, leading to payment issues for projects initiated during the previous project director's tenure.

 Some of these projects are under investigation for non-standardization, including the construction of climbing walls in Peshawar, Mardan, and Akora Khattak, with significant public funds spent but lacking sports activities. The concern grows as these projects unfolded during the tenure of a project director brought in from a semi-government institution.
