Alleged Embezzlement of Over Five Million Rupees Creates Turmoil in KP Sports Directorate

Peshawar,  The misappropriation of funds from the endowment funds of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Directorate of Sports has become a significant issue during the audit process, causing complications for both the Directorate and the audit teams involved.

The withdrawal of more than five million rupees, allegedly carried out on the instructions of the former Director General of Sports, has raised concerns. According to sources within the sports directorate, the former DG Sports, during his tenure, disbursed endowment funds to individuals associated with the operations department. Shockingly, an amount exceeding five million rupees was reportedly transferred to the personal account of a concerned official.

This revelation surfaced recently during the audit conducted by a team assigned to scrutinize the financial affairs of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Directorate.

The audit team discovered that certain officials within the department had become involved in questionable partnerships, injecting significant sums of money into the provincial sports directorate. This financial injection, totaling over five million rupees, has now come under scrutiny as part of the ongoing audit.

Endowment funds are primarily earmarked for the welfare of players, providing financial assistance to renowned athletes facing health challenges or disabilities. The authority to withdraw these funds lies with the Secretary Sports of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

However, it appears that the Secretary Sports was bypassed in this instance, as the former DG Sports allegedly injected the department with the substantial sum, prompting desperate efforts by department officials to conceal the irregularities.
