Urgent Attention Needed - Critical Issues in the Sports Directorate KPK

I am writing to you today to bring to your attention several critical issues that have arisen within the Sports Directorate of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). As a sports journalist dedicated to upholding transparency and fairness in the sporting arena, I feel compelled to bring these matters to your notice for immediate action.

Delayed Rewards and Scholarships

Firstly, the long-overdue announcement of financial rewards for participants in recent national games has caused significant distress among the athletes. The continued delay in releasing these rewards is not only demoralizing but also raises questions about the Directorate's commitment to supporting its athletes.

Similarly, the under-21 scholarship program, promised by the KP government, has yet to materialize. The lack of progress on this initiative is leaving young athletes disheartened and discouraged, hindering their potential to pursue their sporting aspirations.

Lack of Transparency and Accountability

Secondly, the Directorate's failure to uphold transparency and accountability is deeply concerning. My twelve applications seeking information about sports activities remain pending, demonstrating a blatant disregard for the right to information. This lack of responsiveness not only hinders public scrutiny but also casts a shadow over the Directorate's functioning.

Moreover, the absence of any games tournaments in Peshawar, the provincial capital, throughout 2023 is a stark indicator of the Directorate's organizational shortcomings. Furthermore, the unavailability of information regarding 2022 events highlights a lack of communication and transparency that stifles the growth and promotion of sports in the region.

Questionable Recruitment Practices and Misuse of Funds

Thirdly, the Directorate's recruitment practices have raised serious concerns. Allegations of favoritism and nepotism in recruitment processes have resulted in the unjust dismissal of 300 daily-wage workers and coaches. The Directorate's justification of insufficient funds is questionable given the abrupt closure of the 1000 sports facilities project.

 

Additionally, the excessive resources allocated to the project director and the multiple charges levied against him raise suspicions of mismanagement and misuse of public funds. A thorough investigation into these allegations is imperative to safeguard the integrity of the Directorate's financial operations.

Exploitation for Human Smuggling

Finally, the involvement of the Sports Directorate in human smuggling activities is a matter of grave concern. This illegal practice not only tarnishes the reputation of the sporting community but also puts individuals at risk of exploitation and harm. Immediate action is required to address this issue and prevent further damage to the Directorate's credibility.

Call for Immediate Action

In light of these critical issues, I urge you to take swift and decisive action to rectify the situation within the Sports Directorate. A thorough investigation into the aforementioned allegations, coupled with transparent and accountable practices, is essential to restore the Directorate's integrity and ensure it fulfills its mandate to promote sports, support athletes, and operate with the utmost transparency.

  Constituencies associated with sports appealed to the caretaker chief minister including Governor Ghulam Ali to take notice. PESHAWAR ...
