KP Sports Pavilion Reconstruction Project Raises Safety Concerns: Welding of Nuts Sparks Controversy"
PESHAWAR, Pakistan - The ongoing reconstruction project at
the Peshawar Stadium pavilion has raised safety concerns among stakeholders.
Contractors have reportedly resorted to welding existing nuts instead of
installing new ones in some areas, leading to fears of potential hazards in
windy conditions.
The project, funded by a substantial sum of public money,
aims to enhance the pavilion's infrastructure, including the installation of
non-standard roofs to protect fans from the elements. However, the welding of
nuts in inconsistent positions has gone unnoticed, raising questions about the
project's adherence to safety standards.
Provincial Sports Director Shah Fazil, when informed of the
situation, expressed ignorance and attributed it to technical aspects, placing
the responsibility on the Engineering Wing of the Sports Directorate. This
raises concerns about the lack of oversight and accountability within the
department.
The Engineering Wing has overseen multiple projects, including
the hockey ground, where concerns about the quality of work have also been
raised without proper inquiry. This pattern of negligence highlights the need
for a more rigorous approach to project management and quality control.
As the reconstruction project continues, public attention is
focused on the potential safety issues. The #KPStadiumSafety campaign urges
stakeholders to prioritize the safety of sports enthusiasts and ensure the
responsible execution of public-funded projects.
