Financial Struggles Leave Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wushu Team Benched for National Championships
The dreams of a 25-member Wushu team from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
to compete at the national level have been shattered due to financial
constraints. Despite having finalized athletes for the prestigious national
competitions in Muzaffarabad, the team has been unable to participate as the
necessary funds are not available.
Regrettably, the lack of proactive measures from both the
sports association and the provincial sports directorate has left the team
stranded. The association, although nominally active, has not taken any substantial
steps to secure the required funds, leaving the athletes in a precarious
position.
Efforts to seek cooperation from the provincial sports
directorate were met with disappointment, as they claimed insufficient funds to
support the team. The Wushu Association leaders, echoing the "Aaj
Kirleenge" policy, have remained notably silent on the matter, further
exacerbating the situation for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa team.
Sources reveal that a few determined players have taken matters into their own hands, attempting to participate in the national competitions with whatever support they can gather. Despite attempts to reach out to the association's secretary, no response was received. Rehmat Gul, a representative of the association, initially cited being out of the city as a reason for being unavailable for comment. Later, he assured that information would be shared but remained elusive until the news was released.
