DSO Peshawar Issues Electricity Guidelines for Class IV Quarters, Faces Resistance and Silence

The District Sports Officer (DSO) Peshawar has recently introduced new guidelines regarding the use of electricity in the living quarters of Class IV employees situated in Shah Tahmas Football Stadium. Employees have been instructed to install check meters in their homes by November 17, with disciplinary action looming for non-compliance.

Notices were distributed to the residential quarters, setting November 17 as the final warning date. Surprisingly, some Class IV employees, including Shah Tahas, who have converted part of their living quarters into a shop, were overlooked in this directive, continuing to utilize electricity for commercial activities.

Sources from the District Sports Office Peshawar reveal that a Grade 17 officer residing in the same area, whose home was visited during a raid last month, has been entirely disregarded in this matter.

In response, the Class IV employees argue that they are under the Sports Directorate of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the Provincial Sports Directorate covers the cost of electricity in their homes. They claim that decisions regarding check meters fall outside the purview of the District Sports Officer and Regional Sports Officer, both under the administration of the district government.

The electricity bill for the offices of the DSO and RSO in Shah Tahmas Football Stadium is currently being paid by the Provincial Sports Directorate, which owns a commercial property at Shahi Bagh. This property, initially intended for Class IV employees, is now used as a shop where various food items are sold, accompanied by electricity usage.

While the law mandates the District Sports Office Peshawar to handle these electricity expenses, both the DSO and RSO in Peshawar have maintained silence on the matter. According to the Regional Sports Officer Peshawar, they have received instructions and plan to submit applications for a gas connection and an electricity meter for the Regional Sports Office Peshawar and District Sports Officer Peshawar, respectively, once funds become available
