Journalist's report on illegal electricity use in Shah Tahmas Football Stadium confirmed

A raid on the houses of District Sports Officer (DSO) and Regional Sports Officer (RSO) Peshawar employees has confirmed a journalist's report from April 2023 alleging illegal use of electricity in Shah Tahmas Football Stadium.

In April 2023, the DSO Peshawar filed a complaint against the journalist in Faqirabad police station for publishing the report. The complaint was later withdrawn after the journalist filed a counter-application.

The raid on the employees' houses has confirmed that illegal electricity connections were being used in the stadium. The DSO and RSO Peshawar have now acknowledged the issue.

The Sports Directorate Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been accused of refusing to hire sports coaches due to a financial crisis, while at the same time paying the electricity bills of employees living in government quarters. Many of these houses are not equipped with meters, allowing residents to use electricity freely.

The illegal use of electricity is a major concern in Pakistan, where power shortages are common. The government has been cracking down on electricity theft in recent years, but the problem remains widespread.
