Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium Shopkeepers Allege Mistreatment by Sports Directorate
Shopkeepers
at Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, have alleged
that they are being mistreated by the Sports Directorate.
The
shopkeepers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that they had taken over
the shops 31 years ago by paying a non-refundable premium. The administration
had written in the agreement that if the shops were to be terminated, the owners
would be informed in writing. However, the Sports Directorate is now trying to
take back the shops without any reason, the shopkeepers said.
They
added that they had taken over the shops when no one else was willing to do so,
and had been paying the rent regularly ever since. However, the Sports
Directorate is now taking steps to force them to vacate their shops so that
they can be sold to someone else.
The
shopkeepers also alleged that the Sports Directorate had violated the agreement
by refusing to allow them to transfer their shops to someone else's name, even
though the agreement clearly states that they can do so by depositing Rs.
25,000 with the Sports Directorate.
They
said that a jirga had been held in the past to resolve a similar issue, and the
matter had been settled. However, the Sports Directorate is now trying to start
the same process again.
The
shopkeepers said that they are willing to cooperate with the Sports
Directorate, and that they want to maintain a good relationship with them in
the future. However, they urged the Sports Directorate to stop mistreating them
and to respect the terms of the agreement.
