Seeking Details of the 1000 Sports Facilities Project, DG Sports Initiates Inquiry
Peshawar - The Director General of Sports, Khyber
Pakhtunkhwa, Khalid Mehmood, has initiated an inquiry and requested
comprehensive information regarding all the projects within the ambit of the
1000 sports facilities project. This initiative was commenced during the
previous administration and encompassed the construction of sports grounds at
the tehsil and district levels. However, minimal progress has been made since
its inception in 2019, with the completed projects exhibiting substandard
quality.
The project's appointed director, currently on deputation, has displayed a lack of commitment towards the project's completion. Moreover, the recruitment process remains incomplete, and the engineers involved are primarily trainees who were entrusted with the construction responsibilities.
Sources reveal that the new Director General of Sports has
also demanded a report specifically focusing on the synthetic court built as
part of the 1000 sports project. Numerous synthetic courts have been deemed
substandard, including the Tariq Wadud Hall within the Peshawar Sports Complex and
Hayatabad.
Concerns have arisen as the court in question has
experienced recurring issues, resulting in the formation of bubbles for the
fourth time. This prompted DG Sports Khalid Mahmood himself to investigate the
matter during his recent badminton practice session at the same location. He
has instructed the officials overseeing the development to provide a detailed
report on this matter.
