District Sports Office Peshawar Withholds Information on 2022 Activities Despite Right to Information Requests

Peshawar - The District Sports Office in Peshawar continues to withhold crucial information regarding the activities of the year 2022. Despite multiple requests made under the Right to Information Act through the Directorate General of Sports in April and May 2023, no response has been provided thus far.

 

A concerned citizen from Peshawar had filed an application on April 6, invoking the Right to Information, seeking details about the tournaments scheduled for 2022, along with information on participating players and the incentives provided to them.

Furthermore, the District Sports Office Peshawar was also requested to share the names, positions, and salary details of personnel appointed within their ranks. However, despite more than two months passing since the application was submitted, no information has been forthcoming.

 

The request was made in collaboration with the District Administration Peshawar, who had sought the details of competitions organized with their support. Additionally, the application aimed to obtain information on permanent and daily wage employees, their appointments, and the registration of club and community sports activities in the District Sports Office Peshawar during 2022, including the salaries allocated to staff members.

 

Regrettably, the District Sports Office Peshawar has chosen to remain silent on this matter, leaving citizens in the dark.

The Directorate General of Sports, under the Right to Information, has been tasked with acquiring this information. While the salaries of employees in the District Sports Office Peshawar are provided by the Provincial Sports Directorate, the majority of its expenses are covered by the district administration.

Furthermore, five percent of the district's budget is allocated for sports activities, including the organization of events, recruitment of new athletes, and the supervision of newly formed clubs in accordance with the Provincial Sports Policy of 2018.
