Peshawar - The Sports Directorate of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, under the leadership of its new Director General Khalid Mehmood, has introduced a groundbreaking policy that intertwines employee promotion with active sports involvement. The decision requires coaches to engage in on-field activities, raising concerns among some of them who previously relied on recommendations for advancements within the department.

Director General Khalid Mehmood aims to revitalize the sports sector by encouraging the recruitment of more players and nurturing new talent. He has directed coaches to actively participate in sporting activities, insisting that they join their respective teams wearing sports kits and engage with players during training sessions. Failure to comply with these requirements may result in consequences affecting their promotional prospects.

This decision to make coach promotions contingent upon fielding new players within the year has garnered appreciation from the sports community. It is anticipated that this approach will increase coaches' focus on the game and attract more players to participate in various sports. However, some coaches within the Sports Directorate of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have expressed concerns regarding player registration in the Annual Confidential Report (ACR) of government employees. They fear that their performance will be assessed by the new director general, creating an additional responsibility to actively work in the field if they wish to secure promotions.

It is worth noting that the previous promotion system within the sports department relied heavily on personal connections and recommendations. Consequently, many officials were unable to complete their designated tenure of service. However, with the implementation of this new policy, coaches have an opportunity to progress based on their active involvement and performance, transcending the limitations of nepotism. Several coaches have already achieved remarkable progress, ascending from Grade 10 to Grade 15 within a single year of their appointment.
