Peshawar - The table tennis hall at the PSB Peshawar Center, which was handed over to a private gym, continues to face unresolved issues even after the contract expiration in November 2022. Reports indicate that during the tenure of former Director General Asif Zaman, the hall was transferred to private owners without undergoing the necessary advertising process.

 

Despite the contract ending in November 2022, the table tennis hall has not been open auctioned as per the original plan. During the tenure of former DG Asif Zaman, the ownership of the hall was transferred to a private gym without following proper advertising procedures. The gym owners have been charging a monthly fee of fifty thousand rupees, while the players who previously utilized the hall were displaced. The PSB administration continued to provide electricity supply, but later installed a separate check meter. It should be noted that government institutions have different electricity rates compared to commercial institutions.

 

Since November 2022, more than six months have passed, yet the issue surrounding the table tennis hall, currently occupied by the private gym, remains unresolved. The PSB management has been unable to make a decision regarding the future of the gym, whether it should be opened for rent or subjected to an open auction with increased prices.

 

Interestingly, the official website of the Pakistan Sports Board and Coaching Center Islamabad still showcases the table tennis hall as being utilized for table tennis games, with pictures and information about its usage.

 

The delay in resolving this matter raises concerns about the transparency and proper management of PSB facilities. It is crucial for the PSB administration to address the issue promptly and make a clear decision regarding the future of the table tennis hall. This will ensure fair usage and efficient allocation of resources while upholding the integrity of the sports institution.

 

Updates on the resolution of this issue are eagerly awaited as athletes, stakeholders, and the public anticipate a transparent and equitable outcome.
