Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Athletics Team Faces Participation Setback in Quetta National Games Due to Limited Quota
Quetta , 2023 , The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa athletics team, led by Coach Zafaran afridi , faced a participation setback in the ongoing Quetta National Games. Due to a limited quota of thirteen players, they were unable to compete in numerous events. Zafaran afrdi revealed that there were a total of 23 athletics events, each requiring a minimum of two players. Unfortunately, due to a shortage of athletes, they had to withdraw from several competitions, including high jump, 10,000 meters, 5,000 meters, and discus throw events.
Speaking to journalists, Zafaran expressed disappointment over the inadequate number of athletes provided for the team. Despite instructions to bring in more athletes, only five female athletes were allocated. Zafaran emphasized that they were not competing against departments but rather against other provinces, making it crucial to have a sufficient number of athletes. Regrettably, the team did not receive the required additional athletes, and the allotted quota remained unchanged.
To compensate for the shortage, the team brought in an extra player, adjusting their compensation by reducing the daily payment of players by five hundred rupees.
The incident raises concerns about the allocation of quotas and the need for greater support to ensure fair representation and participation in national games.
