District Sports Office Peshawar Faces Criticism for Withholding Information on 2022 Activities
Peshawar, The District Sports Office (DSO) in Peshawar is
under fire for its reluctance to provide essential information about its
activities in the year 2022, despite more than a month passing since the
request was made.
Under the Right to Information Act, a journalist from
Peshawar had formally requested the DSO Peshawar for details regarding
tournaments organized in 2022, including the number of tournaments held and the
participation statistics of players. Additionally, information was sought about
the compensation provided to players under the transport and dinner Allowance
(TADA).
Furthermore, the journalist had also requested information
about the number of competitions conducted by the DSO Peshawar with the support
of the district administration. This included details about the staff employed
by the DSO Peshawar, their positions, and the salaries they receive.
The request, submitted on April 6, 2023, under the Right to
Information Act, should have been addressed within fifteen days. However, the
DSO Peshawar has failed to respond, causing frustration and concern.
In a separate application, inquiries were made about the
number of permanent and temporary employees in the DSO Peshawar, along with
their appointment dates. Additionally, the journalist questioned how many clubs
and community sports clubs were visited by the DSO Peshawar in 2022 and how
many of them were registered.
Furthermore, details regarding the events organized by the
DSO Peshawar, including program specifics, dates, and costs, were also
requested. Similarly, information about the salaries paid to the DSO Peshawar
staff in the year 2022 was sought.
Despite submitting this request on May 4, the DSO Peshawar
has failed to comply with the Right to Information Act, leaving the journalist
and the public without access to crucial information about the district's
sports activities.
The continued delay and lack of transparency from the DSO
Peshawar have raised questions about accountability and responsible governance.
It is essential for the authorities to address this matter promptly, provide
the requested information, and uphold the principles of the Right to Information
Act.
