Cycling, athletics & other games be promoted like cricket, demanded PCF

Peshawar ,   Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF) President Syed Zahir Ali has demanded of the government to promote cycling, athletics and other games like cricket.

He was talking to media persons here in Peshawar on Saturday, he said that despite best performance of Pakistani cyclists at international level, grants of Rs1.8millions are closed for last two years while the only the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was supervising the concerned game.

He informed that the first one cycling velodrome in the country had been established in Lahore while the second in Baluchistan while the third one is being constructed in Peshawar, which would help the grooming players to promote their cycling game.

The president lamented that due to covid-19, the calendar of cycling events affected but Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) were prepared for holding cycling events while the same SOPs the PCF has sent the federal minister inter provincial Fahmida Mirza.

He expressed the hope that permission would be given to PCF after that a schedule for cycling events would be taken place throughout the country.

About cycling event is going to be held in Switzerland, Mr Shah informed that trials of national cyclists would be taken at two phases, one of them in Karachi wherein cyclists from Sindh and Baluchistan while the second phase would be held in Islamabad and cyclists from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab would participate, and after trials, the selected cyclists would be given further training in Karachi for international event.

 

Responding to a query, he said that Cycling was more tough game than others as rate of one cycle is more than Rs0.5million while poor cyclist player could not afford, therefore, the PCF and provincial associations often keep demanding of governments to provide them.

He appreciated the KP government for supervising the KP association in provision of grants and that’s the reason, the provincial players had expensive and standard cycles, who he lauded were giving performance at national and international level.

He said that there were best male and female cyclists in KP, Sindh and Baluchistan as compared to Punjab, so, PCF by the help of Director coaching Lahore Rana, a velodrome was established in the city so that new talent come forward in this game.

    The Mohmand Bajaur Aman Cycle Race, aimed at spreading the message of peace, is set to take place on November 17, 18, and 19.
