PTVC Faces Rs 1.397 Billion Loss Due to Non-Recovery from Sports Broadcasts

Karachi: Pakistan Television Corporation (PTVC) suffered a massive Rs 1,397.885 million loss in the financial year 2023–24 due to non-recovery of dues from advertising agencies for sports programs aired on its PTV Sports channel. According to the audit report, management failed to ensure timely collection of bills and did not forward default cases to the Pakistan Broadcasting Association (PBA) , resulting in the accumulation of outstanding payments. Several major events, including the Hero Men’s Asian Champion Trophy 2023 (Field Hockey), English Premier League 2023–24, and ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 , contributed to this loss as agencies did not clear their dues. The report also highlighted that PTVC management did not provide proper documentation such as bank statements, cheques, or invoices to support recovery claims. The audit flagged this as a clear indication of weak internal controls and stressed that immediate steps are needed to recover the dues. Audit Recomme...

PTVC Faces Rs 8.7 Million Loss Over Unauthorized Bonuses for ICC T20 World Cup

Islamabad: Pakistan Television Corporation (PTVC) awarded Rs 8.7 million in bonuses to 19 officers, including the Managing Director, following the successful broadcast of the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup 2024 , an audit report has revealed. Each officer, including the MD, received two months’ basic pay as a bonus, in clear violation of financial rules and directives from the Prime Minister. According to the report, Finance Division approval and consent from the relevant administrative ministry were required before issuing any such bonuses. The audit deemed the payments irregular and unjustified , especially considering that PTVC had already suffered significant losses from several sports broadcasts during 2023–24 and had billions of rupees outstanding from advertising agencies. Management defended the decision, stating that the Managing Director was authorized within the powers delegated by the Board of Directors , but the audit rejected this explanation, emphasizing that t...

PTVC Misses FIFA World Cup 2022 Media Rights, Suffers Millions in Losses

Islamabad: Pakistan Television Corporation (PTVC) failed to acquire the media rights for FIFA World Cup 2022 for Pakistan, resulting in losses worth millions of rupees, according to an audit report. The process for acquiring media rights began in September–October 2021 through the regional rights holder M/s Viacom-18 and concluded in May 2022 , with M/s A-Sports successfully securing the rights. Despite previously broadcasting all matches of FIFA World Cups 2014 and 2018, PTVC showed limited interest and did not act decisively, depriving itself of potential advertising revenue and denying a significant portion of the population the opportunity to watch the global event. The audit report attributed the failure to the negligence of the then Director of Sports & Syndication, Dr. Nauman Niaz, and the Chief Organizer Sports, Mr. Osma Azhar , who were responsible for pursuing the rights. The audit also noted that no action has been taken against the responsible officials, ...

KP Sports, Political Ambition, and the Art of Paperwork

Musarrat Ullah Jan – Kikxnow digital creator The elections for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Olympic Association are due in January 2026, and a familiar theatrical rhythm has resumed. Crisscrossing the province, a number of sports associations have started stirring, their preparations unfolding in offices and living rooms and, most probably, in daydreams. Sources say this year will be unusually colorful, with several prominent figures—until now known only in political circles—looking to make an entry into the sporting arena. But herein lies the farcical truth: where election activity has been high, practical preparation is minimal. The only game in town is the "currency game." Since 2020, following the COVID-19 pandemic, not one association has received grants, aid, or substantive support from the KP government. Sports lovers and associations are thus thrown into the role of self-funded heroes, trying to keep the athletic flame alight without a rupee of official assistance. ...

Pakistani Cricketer Muhammad Irfan Junior Suspended for Ball Tampering in Australia

Musarrat Ulalh  Jan – Kikxnow Digital Creator Pakistani first-class cricketer Muhammad Irfan Junior has been handed a five-match suspension in Australia after being found guilty of ball tampering. The penalty was imposed by the Cricket Victoria Tribunal following a breach during a Victorian Premier Premiership match. Irfan Junior, a former WAPDA player who has also represented various Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises, was accused of deliberately altering the condition of the ball's surface to gain an illegal advantage, a technique used to assist swing bowling. This action is classified as a Level 3 offence under the rules of conduct. Umpires noted the ball’s unnatural state, and a subsequent investigation, relying on video evidence and the match report, led to the guilty verdict. Irfan Junior had pleaded innocence, claiming the act was unintentional. While the ban is confined to Australian domestic cricket, the incident has drawn sharp criticism and revived the...

The Bahrain Games: Athletes Deliver Medals, Officials Evade the Financial Scoreboard

Musarrat Ullah Jan – Kikxnow Digital Creator The 2025 Asian Youth Games starkly illuminated a core failure in Pakistani sports: the profound courage and commitment of its young athletes tragically undermined by the systemic corruption and financial secrecy of its institutions. Pakistan's modest three-medal tally—a Silver in Volleyball, plus Bronze medals in Kabaddi and Wrestling—was achieved through sheer personal will, despite being hampered by limited resources and institutional neglect. The most glaring injustice is the financial fog that engulfs the mission's expenditure. While a massive 53-member official delegation attended the Games, reports confirm that some athletes were forced to pay for their own travel and airfare. This revelation strongly suggests that substantial public funds were diverted away from essential player welfare—such as proper training, nutrition, and equipment—to finance a large, and possibly unnecessary, contingent of officials and managers. ...

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority Partners with University of Peshawar to Launch Tourism and Hospitality Courses

In Peshawar, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA) and the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management at the University of Peshawar signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration and promote professional training in tourism and hospitality across the province. During the signing ceremony, Secretary of Tourism and Culture Dr. Abdul Samad emphasized that the university should develop short, practical courses alongside hotel management programs to ensure that young students can benefit from hands-on learning. He added that the tourism industry is not limited to hotel management; it also includes adventure tourism, forest tourism, hospitality, tour guiding, travel guiding, and other related sectors. Dr. Abdul Samad also noted that Pakistan’s service industry is still developing, which often causes challenges for tourists. A well-trained youth workforce can help fill this gap and improve the overall quality of hospitality services. ...

The Sports Ministry: A White Elephant's Tale of Neglect and Paper Progress

Musarrat UllahJan – KikxNow , digital Creator Another quarter dawns, but for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Ministry, it seems little has changed beyond the calendar. As the first quarter of 2025-26 (July-September) fades into memory and October ushers in a new fiscal cycle, a critical question hangs in the air: Was there genuine progress in the realm of sports, or merely an illusion of "activities" meticulously crafted on paper? The time for introspection is long overdue for the Ministry of Sports and its affiliated departments. Four months have elapsed, yet the stark reality across most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reveals a grim picture: the engine of sports is either sputtering to a halt or being steered in an entirely wrong direction. How many Assistant District Sports Officers (ADSOs) are truly engaged in their duties? How many District Sports Officers (DSOs) are at their assigned posts, rather than "temporarily" occupying other positions where "o...

Three Years Have Passed. But the "Mini Sports Complex" is Still Just a

Musarrat Ullah  Jan- Kikxnow Digital Creator Every day, the sun rises over Peshawar; the school bell rings, and the children stand in lines to sing their national anthem. The sports ground of Government Higher Secondary School No. 1 Peshawar City looks the same: it's empty, colourless, and waits for the day when it might finally get converted into a "Mini Sports Complex." This is the very project that was dreamt of in 2022. The dream wasn't of an ordinary person, it was of the school's principal and the then-General Secretaries of the Schools Sports Tournament, Naveed Akhtar and Kaleem Masood. They sent a request with high hopes to the Chairman of BISE Peshawar and the Elementary and Secondary Education Department, proposing that the school ground be developed into a modern "Mini Sports Complex" complete with a gymnasium, court, ground, and a 400-meter track. Three years have passed. The land remains the same, the grass remains the same, the drea...

India, Pakistan, and Olympic Politics: A Serious Truth with a Hint of Humor

Musarrat Ullah  Jan- Kikxnow Digital Creator India has once again decided to play against Pakistan in the game of sports diplomacy, and this at a time when the IOC has levied sanctions over Indonesia's Israeli visa scandal. The first thought that comes to one's mind is: how has India turned sports into a political stage, and now are the players on the field or the diplomats at the table? First, it’s important to understand that India’s Ministry of Sports shows no shame in supporting competition against Pakistan. It claims the Olympic Charter allows them to prevent any country from playing “for racial, religious, or political reasons.” That’s like saying, “We’ll invite you—but only if you don’t criticize us or bring your government’s policies into it.” It is a fact that after the Pulwama attacks, India broke off bilateral relations with Pakistan. The surprise element is the decision of India to continue with “multilateral competitions.” This simply means that if there i...
